Position Overview:

The Project Specialist will support the planning, execution, and completion of various projects within Associated Electrics, Inc. This role requires a highly organized individual with strong communication skills and a knack for problem-solving. The Project Specialist will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure projects are completed on time, within scope, and within budget.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Coordination: Assist in the development and implementation of project plans, including defining project scope, objectives, and deliverables.
  • Schedule Management: Develop and manage project schedules, ensuring timely completion of tasks and milestones.
  • Resource Allocation: Coordinate with various departments to allocate resources effectively and ensure project needs are met.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential project risks and develop mitigation strategies. Monitor project progress and address any issues that arise.
  • Communication: Facilitate clear and consistent communication among project team members, stakeholders, and management. Prepare and distribute project status reports.
  • Documentation: Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including project plans, schedules, meeting minutes, and progress reports.
  • Budget Management: Assist in managing project budgets, tracking expenses, and ensuring financial accountability.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure that project deliverables meet quality standards and customer expectations. Conduct regular reviews and inspections.
  • Continuous Improvement: Contribute to the continuous improvement of project management processes and methodologies.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Project Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in project coordination or management, preferably within the RC car industry or a related field.
  • Certifications: Project Management Professional (PMP) or similar certification is a plus.

Skills:

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Proactive and detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficient in project management software and Microsoft Office Suite.

Design Engineer 2 or Senior Design Engineer

Associated Electrics is looking for detail-oriented R/C enthusiasts to join our growing engineering department with a focus on our competitive race products. Associated Electrics has been in the forefront of hobby-grade model car racing since 1964 from its humble beginnings making slot-car parts and accessories. Today, Associated Electrics has grown to be one of the leading manufacturers in the hobby of radio-controlled vehicles, designing and shipping thousands of radio-control cars and parts to hobby shops and distributors globally.

Candidates for the open engineering position will be expected to own and manage projects from the time of conception through to the product release. Design responsibilities will range from single components to full assemblies along with corresponding 2D production drawings depending on the scope of the assigned projects. Skills such as surface modeling, mechanical design, and basic kinematics will be utilized in this position. Good communication skills are required for this role for internal communication and correspondence with over-seas vendors.

Prototyping, testing, and development is a big part of what makes Associated Electrics a successful company in the Radio-Controlled industry. Prototyping is done in house through utilization of our conventional machine shop and SLS 3D printer. Engineers at Associated Electrics are expected to partake in focused testing of prototype and production products to ensure the desired performance and durability meet the standards that have been set for each project.

Projects at Associated Electrics are unique, challenging, and push the limits of industry standards on performance and value. Everyone on the engineering team helps to continue and strengthen Associated Electric's long history and racing legacy.

Design Engineer 2 or Senior Design Engineer - Responsibilities and Expectations:

  • Race project focused.
  • BOM [bill of materials] and SPL [spare parts list] creation and evaluation.
  • Molded part grouping and part numbering.
  • General understanding of vehicle dynamics pertaining to R/C cars and related terminology
  • Ability to conceptualize, design, and prototype with the use of 3D modeling software and 3D printing.
  • Ability to create 3D assemblies and 2D production drawings from individual parts and subassemblies.
  • Strong analytical and note taking skills required for communicating product testing findings.
  • Sample and production quality control evaluation.
  • Work alongside multidisciplinary departments to meet project deadlines.
  • Organized and clear presenting skills needed for design and project reviews.
  • Ability to work alongside international vendors to solve problems and keep projects on task.
  • Individual operates under general supervision within a framework of established policies and procedures.
  • Incumbents perform a variety of engineering and administrative tasks of limited to moderate difficulty.

Opportunities for Design Engineer 2 or Senior Design Engineer Growth and Experience:

  • DFMA [design for manufacturing and assembly] optimization for many materials and manufacturing processes.
  • FEA [finite element analysis].
  • Product research, testing, and development.
  • SLS 3D printing.
  • Company representation at events and conventions.
  • Project management “from concept to cash”.

Desired Skills and Attributes:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred. [relative / applicable non-degree experience will also be considered]
  • Proficient 3D CAD software skills. [SolidWorks preferred]
  • Previous R/C Car experience required. [Hobby-level or industry professional]
  • Injection-molding experience preferred but not required.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office programs. [Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, MS Teams, etc.]
  • Strong time management, prioritization, and organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-motivated individuals with strong aptitude for problem solving and risk analysis.
  • Strong teamwork ethic.
