Myron Kinnard Takes Thunder Jam V with his TC6.1!
Wednesday, February 6, 2013

This is the fifth year for the Thunder Jam On-road Championships. We have been invited to join the Midwest Grand Slam Series (MWGS) this year. The Thunder Jam has always been Southeast premier on-road event. This event draws a lot of racers due to the size of the track and is considered a warm-up to the Snowbirds in Orlando, since the layouts are similar.
Classes ranged from USVTA (4WD touring car chassis with Vintage Trans Am body) to 13.5 1:12 scale, with racers coming as far north as Pennsylvania, Illinois, Indiana, and from the Southeastern region including Alabama and Georgia.
I decided to run my main classes USVTA and USGT (Grand Touring). With Friday practice behind us, the Saturday qualifiers was a show of shows. Racers were getting faster and faster all day and the traction was very good.
On Sunday we ran the last qualifier, and I positioned myself and my Team Associated TC6, with Reedy Wolfpack 5000 25C, in the TQ spot for VTA. I also ran the new Reedy 7000mAh 65C 7.4V Competition LiPo Battery in my other TC6/LRP SXX v2 to take TQ in USGT as well, by 2 laps.
As the mains came around, I was looking to get a clean start and make a run at the championship. In both classes my AE TC6's didn't let me down. I took the lead from the horn and never gave it up. The handling of the TC6.1 was second to none and allowed me to push the entire race. It was a great event and already on my calendar for next year.
